Celebrating Lava Glass' 20th Anniversary
We are celebrating our 20th anniversary! To mark the occasion, Christine and Lynden have created a brand-new pastel-coloured Raglan Series. To thank all customers for their loyal support throughout the years the doors to the Lava Glass sculpture garden will be open free of charge to all visitors on the weekend of the 25th and 26th of March 2023.
The Artists Behind Lava Glass
Lava Glass was created by award-winning master glass artist Lynden Over and artist Christine Robb, who met at art school and have worked together on their creative vision, since graduating from their Bachelor of Applied Arts at Northtech.
How it all Began
Starting from a bare block of land on the outskirts of Taupo, Lynden and Christine have continuously developed the space to incorporate a world-class glass art gallery, gourmet cafe, and a glass sculpture garden, all adjacent to the bespoke studio space for Lynden and Christine to create their masterpieces.
Specializing in Capturing the New Zealand Landscape in Glass
Right from its inception Lava Glass gave the two artists the freedom to develop new innovative ways of depicting the spectacular and rugged New Zealand landscape in glass. The dramatic landscapes are their inspiration, glass their canvas. Christine & Lynden’s work is highly regarded and found in a number of galleries throughout New Zealand, and in public and private collections worldwide.
“We are still as passionate today about making art glass as we were 26 years ago when we met at art school”, said Christine Robb, “and we are looking forward to creating beautiful pieces of glass art representing the New Zealand landscape for many more years to come.”
First Net Carbon Zero Certified Studio in the World
Lynden and Christine also believe in going the extra mile for sustainability. In 2021 Lava Glass achieved net carbon zero status and is the first glassblowing studio in the world to have done so!
Brand-new Raglan Series
Christine and Lynden’s brand-new pastel-coloured Raglan Series captures the laid-back feel of one of New Zealand's idyllic towns nestled between a harbour and the wild west coast. The three designs are named after songs of the '70s: Mellow Yellow, Misty Mountain and Morning Dew.
