Lava Glass Featured in The Glass Lens at Auckland Museum

Lava Glass is delighted to be part of The Glass Lens, a special exhibition presented by the Museum Store at Auckland Museum, showcasing the work of seven contemporary glass artists from across Aotearoa.

Running from 1 August to 30 August 2026, the exhibition celebrates the diverse ways artists interpret the natural world, cultural narratives, and contemporary design through the medium of glass. Each artist offers a unique perspective - or "lens"- demonstrating the remarkable versatility and artistic possibilities of glass.

We are honoured to have our works featured alongside an exceptional group of New Zealand glass artists: Judy Newton, Kahu Design, Keith Grinter, Luke Jacomb & Tara Ross (Luke Jacomb Studio), Rebecca Heap, and Thomas Barter.

Visitors to The Glass Lens will discover an inspiring collection of handcrafted glass artworks, including sculptural pieces, vases, jewellery, bowls, and functional glassware. Every piece reflects the skill, creativity, and innovation that continue to shape contemporary glass art in Aotearoa, and all works are available for purchase through the Museum Store.

Meet the Artists – The Glass Lens Panel Evening

As part of the exhibition, Auckland Museum will host The Glass Lens Panel Evening on Tuesday 25 August, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

This special Twilight Tuesday event brings together Thomas Barter, Keith Grinter, Luke Jacomb and Tara Ross (Luke Jacomb Studio), Judy Newton, and Lynden Over and Christine Robb of Lava Glass for an engaging discussion about their individual artistic practices, creative influences, and the stories behind their work.

Following the panel discussion, guests will have the opportunity to meet the artists in the exhibition space, experience the artworks up close, and learn more about the creative processes behind each collection.
